The Purpose of a Wilderness Therapy Program.
Treatment of Mental or Addiction Health issues through Wilderness Treatment involves a three step process which starts with a Cleansing phase and ends with a phase where the patient is fully absorbed in the society.
Wilderness Therapy is not actually a standalone cure. One cannot prove there is a wilderness therapy a go-to cure for any kind of behavioral issues or that through Wilderness Therapy will a patient be totally cured of his mental illness. Wilderness Therapy is a process that’s used in conjunction with other therapeutic remedies.
Individuals undergoing Wilderness Therapy programs Follow it up with counseling on a periodical basis. Individuals are needed to be under prescription as per the evaluation of the program after the individuals have left their dwelling place.
Staffs at Wilderness Therapy Program are compassionate and patient by character when dealing with individuals who are suffering from addiction. Rather than forcing change on the patient, they let the natural consequences to influence their client’s responses. Staffs are seen as not authority figures that are there to facilitate and never force their ideas and role models. They encourage an environment for debate where the patient talk about what and can gradually open up.
The Wilderness Therapy process is divided into three different phases with the first being the cleaning phase followed by the personal responsibility phase and lastly the transition and after care phase.
Cleansing Phase- Bringing an Individual to Wilderness might not be enough to remove the toxins, of which are in the individual traces. Flushing out toxins can be done by the use of medicines, promoting healthy diet and intense physical exercise. Teaching of self care abilities and basic survival skills are also a few of the techniques.
Personal Responsibility Phase- After the cleansing phase, the patients are forced to take responsibility of the activities up. With the background setting of wilderness, the patients are forced to think how to look after themselves in the face of unforeseen circumstances chucked up by nature. The whole idea behind this stage is to construct social skills that’s an integral ingredient in getting the patient back.
Transition and After care Phase- The patients having understood their potential and responsibility are fit to get back to their family. The staff has to educate ideas how they are going to stick to those ideas and that they learnt to the individuals. This phase usually follows a one-on-one counseling and group sessions with peers. The staff also go through the various goals that the patient has made for themselves and helps them to come up with definitive strategies that will help them to accomplish those goals.
Wilderness Therapy Procedure involves a patient to move from a cleansing phase through a stage where they need to take responsibility to somewhere they’re taught the life skills phase.
